Drinking Has Changed: Happy Hours and the COVID-19 Crisis

The COVID-19 crisis has fundamentally changed the way our world interacts.  Social distancing, as being practiced to combat COVID-19 (at least by some of us—come on people!), is a physical practice. The social world, however, exists in virtual space as well as the physical world.  To that end, drinking has migrated to virtual space.

Not long after the “lock-downs” started, people spontaneously started having virtual happy hours. PBS covered this phenomenon last week  https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/happy-hours-go-virtual-amid-novel-coronavirus-crisis .

In today’s special episode of the Field Alcohologist, guest host, Daniele Madden, interviews a group of 20-30 year old professionals living in Los Angeles, at the beginning of their second virtual happy hour since the “lock-down.”
